Metalworking fluids and machine coolants make a perfect home for bacteria.
All that water, your lubricants (the food), and a little warmth, make an ideal nurturing environment for bacteria and mold growth.
Typically the first clue is foul odor. Occasionally bacteria can cause unexplained rusting of parts or even a skin rash on a worker.
When you have multiple sumps, typically 2 out of 20 will be bad actors (high odor) with about 4 additional sumps in need of treatment.
The upside of monitoring fluid is an increase in the fluid’s life by up to three fold or even more vs. unmanaged fluids.
